Gary Airport Authority Makes Budget Adjustments

GARY | Budget concerns occupied the Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority Board at its monthly meeting Wednesday.

Earlier this year, Indiana determined that the airport is among the Gary-based districts that needed to be placed under the watch of a fiscal manager. That Pennsylvania-based consulting firm is to be paid $320,000.

How much the airport's share of that fee will be is now in the hands of the authority's legal counsel, Patrick Lipp of the firm of Blachly, Tauber, Bozik and Hartman. Lipp's contract was extended for two more years at Wednesday's meeting.

The airport authority also signed a contract with Amco Systems Parking to collect parking fees for vehicles coming to the airport for charter flights.

In addition, the board amended the airport's contract with Waste Management to reduce the amount of garbage that is picked up at the facility, said Chris Curry, airport director.

"This will help us reduce our costs," Curry said.
